What we paint
Inside, outside, and everything in between
One family company and two crews of our own painters. No subcontractors, so the people who quote your job are the people who finish it.

Interior painting
Walls, ceilings, trim and doors, with the prep that makes paint last: patching, sanding, caulking and two coats.
Interior painting
Exterior painting
Washed, scraped, primed and painted with UV-resistant paint made for Colorado sun, wind and hail.
Exterior painting
Cabinet refinishing
A new kitchen look for a fraction of the cost of replacing cabinets. Sprayed in our shop, not brushed in your kitchen.
Cabinets
Deck & fence staining
Cleaned, sanded, stained and sealed so the wood lasts, and so the next re-seal date is on your calendar.
Deck staining
Drywall repair
Holes, water damage, popcorn ceilings and nail pops, patched and textured so the repair disappears.

A gray redwood deck restored before the first snow
Eighteen years of Colorado sun had turned the deck silver-gray and rough.
Navy kitchen cabinets, refinished without a remodel
Honey-oak cabinets from the 1990s, in good shape, with a layout the owner liked. We changed the color, not the kitchen.
Two-story exterior in Timnath, scaffolding and all
A 2008-built two-story with faded blue siding, chalky south-facing trim and a garage the sun had bleached white.

Hartwell & Sons
Two sons, one dad, and a crew who’ve been with us for years
Dale Hartwell started the company in 2008 with one van and his two boys on the weekends. Cole now writes the estimates, Wyatt leads the exterior crew, and Marianne runs the schedule and answers the phone.
Our painters are on our payroll, not subcontracted. Most have been with us five years or more, and they know how we want a ceiling line cut.
- Insured, with workers’ comp on every painter
- EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm
- Photo updates and a final walk-through on every job
What Fort Collins says about us
- ★★★★★
“Nine rooms in six days, and I never once had to ask where anyone was. Cole walked every wall with me at the end with a flashlight and a roll of blue tape. The lines at the ceiling are razor sharp and my house smells like nothing, which is how I knew it was done right.”
Janelle M.Whole-house interior, Fort CollinsReview on Google - ★★★★★
“We got four quotes. Hartwell was not the cheapest and not the most expensive, but they were the only ones who scraped a test section and showed us what was under the old paint. Wyatt’s crew was on and off our two-story in a week, and they covered every shrub.”
Rick & Sue T.Exterior repaint, TimnathReview on Google - ★★★★★
“I was ready to rip out my kitchen. Luis and Beth sprayed the cabinets in a clean room set up in my garage, and they came back looking like brand-new shaker doors. Two months later, nothing has chipped, and I have two kids and a dog.”
Amara O.Kitchen cabinets, LovelandReview on Google - ★★★★★
“Our old redwood deck was gray and splintery. They washed it, sanded it, stained it and sealed it in three days. It looks better than the day it was built, and Wyatt told me exactly when to re-seal it. I put the date on my calendar.”
Doug W.Deck stain, BellvueReview on Google - ★★★★★
“I’d bought eleven sample pots and hated all of them. Beth came for ninety minutes, looked at the light in my north-facing living room at three different times of day, and picked two colors. I haven’t second-guessed it once.”
Priya N.Color consultation, Fort CollinsReview on Google - ★★★★★
“We’re landlords with six units, and a painter who answers the phone and finishes on the day they say is worth gold. Hartwell turns a two-bedroom in three days, and the receipts go straight to my bookkeeper.”

Questions about estimates and prices
Is the estimate really free?
Yes. Cole or Wyatt comes to your home, measures, checks the surfaces and talks through what you want. You get a written estimate within two business days. There’s no fee and no pressure, and the price in writing is the price you pay unless you change the job.
How fast can you come out for an estimate?
Usually within three business days, evenings and Saturday mornings included. If your job is small, such as one room or a deck, send photos on our Free estimate page and we can often give you a number before we visit.
Do you take a deposit?
We ask for 10 percent to reserve your dates, and the rest when the job is finished and you’ve done the final walk-through with us. We never ask for the full amount up front, and we don’t take the last payment until you’re happy.
Why are your quotes higher than the guy with the truck?
Most of what you pay for in a paint job is preparation: washing, scraping, sanding, patching, caulking and priming. Quick, cheap jobs skip it, and the paint peels in two winters. Our quote lists the prep, the number of coats and the paint by name, so you can compare apples to apples.
How can I pay, and is there financing?
Check, ACH, cash, or a credit or debit card. For projects of $3,000 or more, we also offer 12-month, same-as-cash payment plans through our lending partner, subject to approval. See Warranty & payment for details.
