Eighteen years of Colorado sun had turned the deck silver-gray and rough.
The deck was structurally sound but dry and splintery. Wyatt’s crew cleaned it with a wood brightener, let it dry for a full day, sanded the handrails and boards, and applied two coats of a penetrating semi-transparent stain in a warm cedar tone. The pergola got the same stain.
We picked a dry three-day window, and we waited for the morning dew to burn off before every coat.
The result
The deck looks new and sheds water again. We wrote the re-seal date, two years from now, on a card and left it with the owner.
“Our old redwood deck was gray and splintery. They washed it, sanded it, stained it and sealed it in three days. It looks better than the day it was built.”
