The siding was chalky, the porch ceiling had mildew, and the stained wood door had faded to gray.
This 1920s Old Town house is lead-painted under a few layers of newer coats, so we worked lead-safe from the first day: plastic on the ground, wet scraping and a HEPA vacuum.
Wyatt’s crew washed the siding, scraped and spot-primed the bare wood, replaced three feet of rotted trim, and caulked every joint. Two coats of a satin acrylic went on the siding in a soft blue the family picked with Beth, and the porch ceiling got a mildew-resistant primer and a fresh white.
We sanded the front door down to bare wood and gave it three coats of an exterior spar varnish.
The result
An old house that looks fresh without losing its character, and a front door that finally shows its grain again.
“We got four quotes. Hartwell was the only one who scraped a test section to show us what was under the old paint, and the porch is the first thing guests mention now.”
