A deck on the south side of a house with a peeling solid stain that kept flaking under bare feet.
A previous owner had put a solid-color stain over bare wood, and it was peeling in sheets. We stripped the old coating, sanded the boards smooth, replaced two warped boards and applied a transparent sealer that lets the grain show.
The result
Bare feet are safe again, the water beads, and a deck that was heading for replacement got another ten years. We’ll check back in the spring.
